After more than a decade, one of the most popular musical genres makes its return to the Margaret Island Open-Air Theatre’s 80th birthday with Circus Princess one of the most popular operettas of the greatest operetta composers, Emmerich Kálmán. In the celebratory season of the theatre, the incredibly popular pieces by the grand master of operetta will make its premiere appearance on the stage, filled with circus whirlabout.
The grand operetta, which was originally written in German for its 1926 Viennese premiere, has been going strong since day one due to its great story and grandiose effects. In this exotic tale, the story of acrobats, animal trainers and clowns is played against the glamorous life of the aristocracy which has its own dark, hidden secrets. Yet in the sparkling world of the operetta, the star-crossed lovers can still find each other in the maze of adventure, intrigue, misunderstandings and love conquers all in the end.
The beloved tunes of Emmerich Imre will make their debut appearance on Margaret Island Open-Air Theatre under the old trees and the starlit sky – this time starring Enikő Dobó and Zoltán Miller, with direction by Máté Szabó.
A co-production between the Margaret Island Open-Air Theatre and the National Theatre of Miskolc.
